Overview
Delivery agents are the last mile of noon Food — they interact with the product on every single shift, often under time pressure, in varying conditions. This app is their primary tool for managing their entire work day: checking in for shifts, receiving and fulfilling orders, tracking performance, claiming incentives, managing breaks, handling payments, and reaching support when things go wrong.
I led the initial UX design of the app, covering 15+ distinct flows. The work included designing for Arabic localisation from the ground up, and developing a bespoke illustration system for the app's empty states and onboarding moments.
The Problem
Agents were managing their work day across fragmented tools
Before this app, delivery agents relied on a patchwork of channels — WhatsApp groups for shift updates, phone calls for support, paper-based processes for cash handling. There was no single source of truth for an agent's shift, orders, earnings, or performance. This created errors, delays, and significant frustration.
The design challenge was to consolidate everything into a single app without overwhelming agents who needed to act quickly in the field — often with one hand, in bright sunlight, between stops.

Process & Key Decisions
Designing for the field, not the desk
Decision 01
Design Arabic-first, not Arabic-as-an-afterthought
A significant portion of noon Food's delivery agents are Arabic speakers. Rather than designing in English and mirroring the layout for RTL, the Arabic experience was considered at every stage — from information hierarchy to icon placement to text length variation. All screens were designed and QA'd in both directions.
Decision 02
One-handed, eyes-up interaction as the design constraint
Agents are often physically moving when they use the app — on a bike, carrying a package, navigating. Every critical action was designed to be reachable with a thumb from the bottom of the screen. Confirmation steps were streamlined and destructive actions placed out of accidental reach.
Decision 03
Build a bespoke illustration system for empty states and onboarding
Generic placeholder states felt out of place in a product that agents spend their working lives in. A custom illustration style was developed — friendly, energetic, and consistent with the noon Food brand — used across empty states, shift start screens, and onboarding moments.
Decision 04
Surface earnings and performance prominently — agents care about their income
Agent motivation is directly tied to visibility of earnings and performance. Incentives, performance metrics, and daily earnings were designed to be easily accessible from the home screen — not buried in a settings menu — because agents check them constantly throughout their shift.
